Reusing previously created knowledge is a precondition for the efficient, waste-free, low-risk and low-cost development of new products. Using real-life examples from oil and gas company TechnipFMC, the authors of this White Paper suggest three approaches to effectively reusing knowledge: relying on existing technologies available outside a company; searching for existing solutions developed in previous projects within a company’s portfolio; and creating new learnings by means of a set-based innovation process within multiple development cycles (SBCE). For each of the three approaches, they discuss benefits and challenges.
